How to pitch The Michigan Review.

Who can write

Any University of Michigan student can pitch The Michigan Review, whatever your major, year or politics. We also consider guest essays from faculty, alumni and members of the Ann Arbor community.

What we’re looking for

  • News and analysis on the administration, student government, campus policy and Ann Arbor.
  • Opinion: a clear argument, well supported, 600–1,200 words. Tell us what you think and why the reader should care.
  • Sports: game coverage, previews and the business of college athletics.
  • Conversations: interview ideas for our Q&A series and The Review Room podcast.

How to pitch

Email editors@michiganreview.com with “Pitch” in the subject line. In a few sentences, tell us the argument or the news, why now, and why you’re the person to write it. Include links to any previous writing.

Staff writers submit drafts through the Review’s editor dashboard; editors will set you up with an account once you join.

Our editing

Every piece is edited for clarity, accuracy and fairness before publication. You’ll see and approve substantive changes. Read our standards before you file.
