WE WANT YOU FOR THE MICHIGAN REVIEW

Winter 2025 applications for staff writer positions are now open!

The Michigan Review is back and better than ever! Our team has been hard at work behind the scenes to gear up for a formal relaunch next semester. This will be a time for expansion, and we are excited to announce that we will be recruiting a new team of staff writers to our organization!

Prospective staff writers will be able to choose between our five categories: Campus News, Politics, Law, Economics, and Sports. Each staff writer will work with their category’s section editor to publish an article once every two weeks in structured writing cycles. These articles will vary from news reports, editorials, or even interviews – depending on what is relevant during that cycle! At the end of each cycle, your work will get published on our website for the world to see. Articles from The Michigan Review have gone viral before, so, with a bit of luck, you too may get your big break!

Writers of each section will gain access to their own special perks. For example, Sports writers will get exclusive press passes for games, potential appearances at backroom press conferences, question times with teams, and access to our X (…Twitter?) account; Economics writers will get experience managing a budget, creating balance sheets, and giving financial report presentations by shadowing our Chief Financial Officer; and Campus News writers will get backroom and special interview access to important people on campus (depending on the news cycle).

NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED: Our mission is to help students develop themselves as they choose their careers. You will naturally develop as you research and write about your topic, shoring up your resume with published writing samples and becoming an expert in your topic. The Michigan Review was created to build up a new generation of talent by providing real professional opportunities, so feel free to apply no matter your experience level!

Our team is made up of current college students, so we understand how overwhelming and stressful university can be, especially this one. We plan on holding weekly club meetings to build support systems during writing cycles. We will also host professional development and networking opportunities through access to successful guest speakers and alumni from across several industries – all at our weekly meetings.
