The Columbus Crew acquired midfielder Hector Jimenez and the L.A. Galaxy’s first-round pick in the 2014 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Tuesday in exchange for the Crew’s second-round pick and an unspecified amount of “allocation money.”
Jimenez, 25, was selected in the second round of the 2011 SuperDraft and spent the last three seasons with the Galaxy, scoring four goals and six assists in 43 appearances en route to helping the Galaxy win MLS titles in 2011 and 2012.
Jimenez is expected to bolster a thin midfield unit that includes Wil Trapp, Bernardo Anor , Kevan George and Toni Tchani. The four players combined for seven goals and three assists last season.
